Farm mills

Farm mills along the river Ulva.
At World war II, the mills was sealed by the authorities, so the farmers should not get tricky,  and grind the grain themselves, and not share the crop with the occupants.  The farmers, however,  broke the seals on at least one of the mills, and grinded their crop as they wanted

In the constructed pond you may catch fish.  Fishing cards can be bought at the farm across the road

Ledge  in a cliff where they in previous times grew apples and other fruits.  The warm sun made sure that the condition for that kind of cultivation was great.

As the garden was rather far away, it was cumbersome to transport the apples home, and the garden was left alone for years.  Now they have tidy up the garden, and planted trees and flowers that you may associate with other parts of the world.

      Sawing trestle

Nearby the cotter's, right across the road, you find this trestle. Splitting timber by hand could be done like this:  Logs of timber were rolled onto the trestle.  One  or two men were standing upon-  and the same beneath the trestle, pushing and pulling a saw blade up and down trough a slit.   In this manner, they managed to split the log into plank and board.  Some of the houses you can see at Ulvedal shall have been build of material split  this way.
